Qwant is fully GDPR compliant and based in Paris, France. It does not store search histories, build user profiles, or use tracking cookies. All data stays on EU servers. Ads are contextual, based on what you search for in that moment, not on your browsing history. In 2025, France's data protection authority (CNIL) reminded Qwant that certain data shared with Microsoft for ad delivery counted as personal data. Qwant updated its practices in response. The company is actively reducing its dependence on non-EU infrastructure through its Staan search index project with Ecosia.
